This is what we
are fighting
against on a daily
basis in Greece.
This video is very
GRAPHIC and
very
REAL.

Sadly, there are
countless dogs
like Boney
Fingers in Greece
and their plight is
depicted in the
slideshow
prepared for and
uploaded on You
Tube.
All the
photos used in
the slideshow
were taken in
the past year

and they are just
a small example of
the atrocities
committed against
animals in Greece.

We would like to thank the junior minister- M. Apostolaki- for her brave inititative to
proceed with a decisive circus ban. We would like to encourage all of GAWF members
and related parties to possibly take the time to send an acknowledgement email to the
junior minister in order to reinforce GAWFs great achievement and her valuable
contribution. Her email address is:

Poland is the odd one out...for now
At a European Commission
meeting in January, the Polish
government announced its plan to
ask the Council of Ministers for a
postponement to the barren battery
cage ban.

This makes Poland the only EU
country now officially requesting a
delay. But unless we make our
opposition heard loud and clear,
other countries may be tempted to
follow suit.

This delay would prevent an
improved life for millions of hens.

We need to move fast

We expect the Polish government
to appeal to the Council for a
postponement sooner rather than
later, as it will become more difficult
for them once they take over the
presidency of the EU on 1 July.

So please
take action now and
urge the Polish Prime Minister and
Agriculture Minister not to press
ahead with their postponement
request.

[English version follows]
MASS EXECUTION OF STRAY DOGS IN IKONIO-PIRAEUS

MASS EXECUTION OF STRAY DOGS IN IKONIO-PIRAEUS

On the 17th and 18th of January 2011, more than 18 stray
dogs were poisoned in the Greek sector of SEMBO in the area
of Ikonio-Piraeus. We all condemn this heinous crime against
the stray animals, which lived in the area for years.

Every single one of these animals was neutered and
vaccinated, and was cared for by animal lovers, animal
welfare associations and people who work in the area.
The dogs were not agressive or territorial - on the contrary:
they lived in harmony with the peope who work or entered the
area.

Following this criminal act, we demand that every competent
civil service investigates the situation, so that the perpetrator
of this crime is found and brought to justice.

We also want the port authorities in Piraeus to provide
sufficient protection of the stray animals that live in every
zone of the port, as well as everywhere else they exist, so as
to prevent similar criminal acts against them in the future.

Please sign the petition and help us bring the people who did
this to justice.
