GAR – Greek Animal Rescue (UK) – www.greekanimalrescue.com – offers support to a number of Greek animal
welfare groups and shelters

GAWF (UK) – Greek Animal Welfare Fund – www.gawf.org.uk - helps support SPAZ’s neutering programs and
works all over Greece on various neutering, education and other animal-related programs.

IFAW – International Fund for Animal Welfare (USA) – www.ifaw.org - rescues animals from disasters around
the world; visited Greece after the devastating fires of 2007

RSPCA (UK) – Royal Society for the Protection of Companion Animals – www.rspca.org.uk SPAZ is affiliated
with the RSPCA and has received funding for special projects, especially education projects. They offer support

PIG WELFARE IN
EUROPE

Every year, more than 1.3
billion pigs are slaughtered for
meat worldwide. Compassion
in World Farming has
campaigned for years to
ensure higher welfare
standards for these animals.

As a result of our work,
animals are legally recognised
as sentient beings within the
EU. Thanks to Compassion’s
campaign, sow stalls have
been banned in the UK since
1999, and will be banned
across the EU in 2013.

Despite these achievements
we still have so much more to
do to protect the welfare of all
pigs.
