1.        Potential adopters must be adults.

2.        When you talk to or meet the potential adopter, find out where they live, get a
telephone number (home phone, not just a mobile) and ask to see their identification

3.        Do not give the animal to someone who intends to give it to another person as
a gift or whatever

4.        Do not give the animal to someone who wants to use it as a guard dog (and
who will probably be chained up)

5.        Find out if the potential adopter has had other pets and what happened to them

6.        Do not give the animal to someone who is under the influence of alcohol or
drugs

7.        When you have agreed that the potential adopter can have the animal, arrange
to bring the animal to their house so you can check out the situation

8.        It is wise to neuter the animal before homing it

9.        Offer to take the animal back if there are any problems (otherwise they may
just abandon it on the street!)

10.        After the animal has gone to his new home, phone after a week to inquire
after it.

11.        While it is wise to be careful about potential adopters, once the animal has
gone and you feel it has a good home, let it go.  Do not keep phoning. Do not demand
a year later to come and check on the animal. Make the best decision you can and
then move on.
