Annual General Meeting and Elections SPAZ members met on Sunday January 24th to discuss the events of 2009 and elect a new Executive for the years 2010-2011. Thirty-two people attended the meeting and although we had hoped that more members would show up, the meeting was a very positive one. Vassi Clainos chaired the meeting and introduced all the candidates running for election. Treasurer Fofi Dimitriadou presented the 2009 financial statement (see below) which showed that we ended up the year, paying all of our debts, and with a healthy balance in the bank of around 4,000 Euros. This was due to the enormous effort by SPAZ members working on the Christmas Bazaar. The effort paid off and this bazaar brought in the most money we have ever made. In addition, our plea for donations also brought a positive response. We thank everyone for their efforts and in particular want to thank the following six people who gave us a total of 4430 Euros. Aristidis Iannidis - 2000€, Sur Suriani 700€, Deidra from Molly Malone’s Pub - 650€ Koula from London - 400€, Beth Athanasiadi and the ID students at Geitonas School 680€. We neutered a total of 1299 animals in 2009. Bravo to our members. Elections were held and you can look at the home page for the results. We are pleased to welcome two new members to the Executive – Nikki Clainos and Tatiana Papamoschou. We also have a new committee – the SPAZ Website/Public Relations group made up of Elizabeth Koubena, Sia Hurst and Vassi Clainos. We thank Efi Bikou, Sia Hurst and Elena Taxeri for counting the ballots. A number of announcements were made. The Car Boot Sales are now being held twice a month (check the events page for details), and volunteers are needed to help. We also have added a new vet to our group of SPAZ vets (check the list of vets). Tatiana told members about the Greek Horse Protection Group she belongs to and the problems associated with rescuing horses from owners who treat them cruelly. Joanna Doulakis announced that we will hold a Food Festival sometime in May as an extra fund-raising event. A lively discussion took place on general issues of animal welfare before the meeting was adjourned. |
